About The Ruff Seas House

The Ruff Seas was originally built as a fisherman’s cottage in the 70s after Hurricane Hazel.

She sports 3 bedrooms (1 King, 1 Queen, 1 Twin), 1 bathroom, a quaint living and dining area, and an updated kitchen. Enjoy the serenity of a spacious screened-in porch or feel refreshed in the outdoor shower.

The house is on the Woodland side of the island, a half mile from public beach access. This lot has an extra relaxed feel, as a neighboring lot is undeveloped. You may even catch some wildlife walking around!

The Neighborhood

The Woodland side of the island is very quiet and residential. Our street includes many permanent residents.

We do share a driveway with the neighbor’s house. The neighbor is in the family of the original owner / builder of our 2 houses. There is a lot of history and memories between these 2 houses.

There is a Publix grocery store within a few blocks and many restaurants walkable or a short drive.

You can access the Intracoastal Waterway side of the island within 3 blocks.

Oak Island, NC

Oak Island is a man-made island in SE North Carolina, created during the construction of the intercostal waterway.

If flying, Raleigh (RDU) is about 2.5 hours, Wilmington (ILM) 45 minutes, and Myrtle Beach (MYR) around 1 hour.

The island is quite small, averaging a mile wide or less, but a great place to unwind and reset. There are lots of great restaurants, plentiful water activities, and of course a beautiful coastline. The beach is South facing, and the geography of the ocean in this particular area creates a pretty calm surf. The beach fluctuates between 100 and 30 feet based on the tide.
